The Netherlands' Tokyo 2020 athletes maintained their leads in the respective 49er and 49erFX competition on the third day of racing at the World Cup in their home venue of Medemblik.

With tomorrow’s final fleet racing to come before medal races set for Sunday (July 13), Bart Lambriex and Pim van Vugt hold a four-point lead in the 49er, with their fellow Tokyo 2020 Olympians Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duetz 13 points clear in the 49erFX fleet.

Labriex and van Vugt put together another consistent scoreline in the 31-boat 49er fleet, finishing seventh, second and fifth in today’s races for a net total of 32.

Their nearest challengers are France's Kévin Fischer and Nóe Delpech, who finished second, eighth and first to end the day on 36.

Germany’s Jakob Meggendorfer and Andreas Spranger are third on 41 after finishing third, twelfth and third.

Marco Anessi Pé and Edoardo Gamba of Italy secured their first ever race win in the 49er and ended the day in the top ten after finishing ninth, first and sixth.

Bekkering and Duetz, the 2018 world champions, strengthened their grip at the top after discarding their opening 19 points for a U flag disqualification and then finishing fifth and first to bring their net total to 13.

Germany's Maria Bergmann and Hanna Wille are second on 26 after discarding a 10-pointer and then finishing first and third today.

Third place is held by Britain’s Isabelle Fellows and Alice Masterman on 28, after finishing fifth, second and second today.

Germany’s Maru Scheel and Freya Feilcke were also impressive as they claimed a race win alongside a sixth and a fourth to move up to fourth on 29.

Sailors will seek a spot in the top ten tomorrow to advance to Sunday's medal races.
