The foundation stone for the second of five boxing centres being built in Russia's Sverdlovsk region has been laid in Talitsa with the help of Umar Kremlev, President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

Kremlev was accompanied by Evgeny Kuyvashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk region, and Kirill Shchekutyev, the secretary general of the Russian Boxing Federation.

The group later attended the opening of the Men's Russian Boxing Cup in the region's main city Yekaterinburg.

The Boxing Centre in Talitsa will be built within the framework of agreements previously reached by the Governor of the region and the AIBA President.

"Two years ago we planned the construction of five boxing centres, and today we laid the foundation stone for the second one," said Kremlev.

"The first is already under construction in Kamensk-Uralsky.

"All this is done for the sake of our children, for the sake of our future.

"And this is a serious step to the development of boxing."

Kuyvashev added: "This is a pilot project that we are running together with the Russian Boxing Federation.

"In total, five such centres will be built in Sverdlovsk region.

"I am sure that we will do everything efficiently and on time.

"I will personally follow up the progress of the work.

"The boxing centre should become a real gift for all citizens."

The future centre will feature a sports complex and gym, with spaces for boxing training and competitions.

Speaking at the Russian Boxing Cup, Kremlev said: "The Sverdlovsk region is truly a boxing centre.

"Yekaterinburg hosted the World Boxing Championships in 2019, today the Russian Boxing Team Cup has started.

"I hope the World Boxing Cup will take place here.

"Many thanks to the Sverdlovsk region for the organisation and a huge contribution to the development of boxing."
