Rio 2016 silver medallist Piers Gilliver is one of the four wheelchair fencers selected to represent Britain at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Gilliver secured ParalympicsGB’s first wheelchair fencing medal for 24 years by finishing as the runner-up in the men’s Category A epée event in Brazil.

"I am really thrilled to have been selected for Tokyo 2020, and proud to be part of the Paralympics GB team for my second Games," Gilliver said.

"This will be my first time competing in four medals events, so I'm really excited for the competition to begin."

Dimitri Coutya will also be competing at a second Paralympic Games, after reaching the quarter-finals of the category B foil and epée events at Rio 2016.

Coutya has won gold medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships.

Gemma Collis-McCann will compete at a third Paralympics, after debuting in the sport at a home Games back at London 2012.

She will contest both the category A epée and the sabre events.

Collis-McCann became the first British woman to win a gold medal at a Fencing World Cup back in 2018.

Oliver Lam-Watson will make his Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

He won a bronze medal in the team epée event at the 2019 World Championships.

Lam-Watson is an active YouTuber and uses the platform to debunk myths about disability and talk about issues such as mental health.

"After a frustrating period of non-competition, the team are really looking forward to going to Tokyo and taking part in one of the biggest sporting events on the global stage," said Matt Hammond, wheelchair fencing performance manager.

"This is a talented team with a blend of youth and experience that can’t wait to get back on the field of play and compete with the world’s best wheelchair fencers."

Around 240 athletes are expected to represent Britain at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games across 19 sports.

The Games are scheduled to take place from August 24 to September 5.
