Defending champions Italy, seeking a record 12th title at the Women's European Softball Championship in Venezia, maintained their 100 per cent record today and have set up a gold-medal match against The Netherlands.

The hosts, who had beaten 2019 silver medallists The Netherlands 2-1 in a key final match of the second round-robin phase yesterday, won both their round-robin matches today.

Italy won 11-0 over Israel and 10-0 over France.

The Dutch, meanwhile, beat Spain 11-0 and then registered a 5-4 win over the Czech Republic - a country a distant third on the all-time medals list at the Women's European Softball Championship behind the Italians and Dutch.

So Italy will meet The Netherlands, who have won this event 10 times since it began in 1979, in the final match tomorrow at Castions Di Strada.

The bronze-medal match will be between Israel and the Czech Republic at the same venue, Israel having followed their opening defeat with a 7-0 victory against Spain.

The Czech Republic had opened their day of action with a 1-0 win over France, so also advance to the third-place playoff.
