The All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) has cancelled its men’s and women’s pre-Olympic training camps in Tokyo and the teams will now fly in shortly before competition starts.

The announcement was made to state-run news agency TASS by Alexander Yaremenko, VFV secretary general.

"We had planned training camps in Japan for men and women from July 14," said Yaremenko.

The coronavirus situation and restrictions in place in Japan have been blamed for the change of plans.

Yaremenko added that "the Japanese side had problems".

"They are not sure if they will be able to accept the teams as agreed.

"We do not know if we could have carried out the training we had planned.

"On the whole, we decided that on July 18, the men's and women's teams of Russia will fly directly to Tokyo.

"There will be enough time for adaptation."
