Germany's Olympic football team walked off the pitch with five minutes left of their warm-up fixture with fellow Tokyo 2020 side Honduras after alleging that one of their players suffered racial abuse.

The match was level at 1-1 when Hertha BSC defender Jordan Torunarigha was allegedly subjected to a racist insult from an opposing player.

No fans were present at the behind closed doors friendly, taking place in Wakayama in southern Japan.

"The game has ended five minutes early with the score at 1-1," the German Football Association said.

"The Germany players left the pitch after Jordan Torunarigha was racially abused."

Germany manager Stefan Kuntz added: "When one of our players is racially abused, playing on is not an option."

Instead of the normal two halves of 45 minutes, three thirds of 30 minutes were planned for the fixture as both sides honed their preparations for Tokyo 2020.

Douglas Martinez opened the scoring for Honduras after 21 minutes before Felix Uduokhai levelled for Germany six minutes from time.

The leveller was shortly before the alleged racial abuse.

The Germans are due to play in Group D of the men's Tokyo 2020 Olympic football tournament here.

They claimed the silver medal at Rio 2016 after losing the final to hosts Brazil, who they have been drawn with again this year.

Saudi Arabia and Ivory Coast are also in the group.

Honduras have been drawn in Group B with New Zealand, South Korea and Romania.

Both Germany and Honduras are due to begin their Olympic tournaments on Thursday (July 22) - with the Germans meeting Brazil in a repeat of the Rio final in Yokohama.

The Hondurans will play Romania in Kashima.

insidethegames has approached the National Autonomous Federation of Football of Honduras for comment.

But a statement on the organisation's Twitter page claimed the incident was a "misunderstanding".
