The gymnasium at Hangzhou Normal University, which is to act as the venue for volleyball at the 2022 Asian Games, has been declared ready more than a year before it is due to host competition.

The Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee invited 30 citizens to visit the facility at the educational establishment's Cangqian Campus, demonstrating its capabilities.

Zheng Huafu, deputy director of Hangzhou Normal University's campus construction department, said the venue adheres to the underlying philosophy of staging a cost-effective Asian Games as it is a pre-existing facility.

"Many materials for sports events can be reused," Zheng said.

"After the competition, it will be used again in other activities."

The venue is 29.7 metres high - ideal for volleyball - and can seat 8,033 spectators.

Two 4K ultra-high-definition screens are also in place.

Hangzhou 2022 is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 25.

Hangzhou will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games, following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
