Fox will go for gold in both the women’s kayak and canoe events, the latter of which is making its debut on the Olympic programme.

The 27-year-old has won both the C1 and K1 titles at two previous World Championships and will aim to replicate those performances when she competes at Sea Forest Waterway.

"I dream of those two golds, it’s a dream scenario," Fox told News Corp.

"This one is so special because of the C1 event, to be part of this historic moment is going to be very special no matter what because it will honour the girls who fought so hard for this."

Germany’s Sideris Tasiadis is bidding to banish his Olympic demons at Tokyo 2020, where he arrives as the favourite in the men’s C1 event.

Tasiadis, fifth at Rio 2016, is the top-ranked male slalom canoeist in the world and will be the one to beat when the event gets underway tomorrow.

"There was pressure on me in Rio, because the German press and media said to me that I was the favourite because I won silver in London, and the gold medallist was not in Rio," Tasiadis said.

"They think I was the number one, but I would say ‘guys, no, it doesn’t work like that, because in canoe slalom it happens so fast. 

"If you touch one gate, the first gate, however you do it, if you are not focussed on that moment, then the gold medal is gone. 

"Maybe the silver and the bronze as well.

"It happened to me in Rio. 

"I touched one gate, so slightly, and then I was in fifth place."

France and Slovakia have won every men’s canoe gold medal since the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

A new champion will be crowned as Denis Gargaud Chanut of France failed to qualify.

Slovakia’s hopes rest on the Rio 2016 silver medallist Matej Benus, while France will rely on Martin Thomas, who defeated Chanut to take the French ticket for the Games.

The Olympic men's K1 champion, Britain's Joseph Clarke, is also not in Tokyo after he was left off the team for the Games.

Canoe slalom competition at Tokyo 2020 is set to run through to Friday (July 30).
