The collaborations were announced to mark 100 days until the event is scheduled to get underway.

The American corporation is due to supply a variety of custom designed apparel, ranging from podium tracksuits to leisurewear, for athletes, coaches and support staff.

Commonwealth Games NI (CGNI) selected Nike following a competitive process which included input from the CGNI Athlete Advisory Commission, governing body performance leads and team management.

"We are delighted to partner with the world’s leading sportswear supplier for Birmingham 2022," said Conal Heatley, business and operations manager for CGNI.

"While the range of quality products is undoubtedly impressive, we have been equally impressed by Nike’s commitments to social justice which reflect our own values on equality and diversity, sustainability, management of supply chains and climate action.

"We have no doubt that the decision to appoint Nike will be welcomed by our athletes."

Commonwealth Games Wales (CGW) is also delighted to have Nike as its provider as preparations for the Games ramp up.

"Team Wales leisure wear kit is one of the most important and exciting areas of our planning," said chief executive of CGW Chris Jenkins.

"We know that wearing well designed and high-quality kit means so much to the athletes and support staff representing Wales.

"We are very proud of our collaboration with Nike, and we look forward to showing the design in due course."

Wales have competed in all 22 Commonwealth Games since the inaugural edition in 1930 whereas Northern Ireland did not take part in 1950.

Northern Irish athletes did appear at the 1930 Games but as part of a single team representing Ireland.

Wales sit 10^th in the Commonwealth Games all-time medal table with 67 gold medals while Northern Ireland has 30, leaving them 14^th.

Birmingham is set to become the third English city to host the multi-sport event.

London hosted in 1934, while the 2002 Games were held in Manchester to coincide with the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
