Michal Krčmář of the Czech Republic  won the men's 7.5-kilometre sprint gold medal at the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Summer Biathlon World Championships, while Poland's Monika Hojnisz-Starega held firm to take the women's 6km sprint title in Nové Město.

Krčmář shot a perfect 10 from 10 with the rifle as he waltzed to victory in 19min 18.5sec on home soil.

Krčmář's gold gave the host nation its fourth medal of the day.

Matej Baloga of Slovakia matched Krčmář's shooting to take silver, finishing 10.2sec behind the leader.

Romania' Cornel Puchianu crossed the line 23.1 behind to claim bronze despite collecting two penalties.

In the women's event, super sprint gold medallist Markéta Davidová of the Czech Republic had to settle for silver, finishing 11.1sec after Hojnisz-Starega and Slovenia's Polona Klemencic took bronze.

The junior men's and junior women's events also reached their finale today.

For the women, the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) athlete Anastasia Shevchenko took the lead with an impressive prone and standing shooting display, powering to the win in 18:13.3 in the junior women's 6km sprint.

Latvian Sanita Bulina and Lena Repinc of Slovenia came second and third, respectively.

Tomas Mikyska added the Czech Republic's second gold of the day after winning the junior men's 7.5km sprint in 20:37.9.

Mikyska's compatriot Vitezslav Hornig came second to give his country a one-two finish and Slovakia's Tomas Sklenarik took the bronze medal.

Tomorrow will see the winners of the men's and junior men's 10km pursuit and the women's and junior women's 7.5km pursuit crowned.
