Cape Verde are through to the AfroBasket semi-finals for the first time since 2007 after a 79-71 win against Uganda in Kigali.

Edy Tavares' third double-double in four games - 23 points and 15 rebounds - led the way for Cape Verde, who took an eight-point lead into the interval and then maintained it across the last two quarters.

Jeff Xavier added 16 points and Joel Almeida 17 at Kigali Arena in the Rwandan capital.

Uganda had the crowd behind them, but shot just 33 per cent from the field - compared to 43 per cent from the Cape Verdeans - and were also outrebounded.

Cape Verde grabbed 50 boards compared to Uganda's 38.

The win sets up Cape Verde up for a semi-final against defending champions Tunisia, who brushed aside South Sudan.

The debutants won the opening quarter and the scores were level after two, but Tunisia's class showed as the game wore on and South Sudan were outmatched.

It finished 80-65, with Omar Abada responsible for 18 of Tunisia's points and Michael Roll 17.

Tomorrow is a rest day, before Tunisia face Cape Verde in the semi-finals on Saturday (September 4) and Senegal play the Ivory Coast in the other last-four clash.
