France are women's inline hockey world champions for the first time after a dominant tournament in Roccaraso.

The French beat Spain 1-0 in today's final, with Chloé Joly-Vuillemin's first-half goal securing the trophy.

It was a solid defence which was the bedrock of France' success, and the team conceded only one goal throughout the World Championship in Italy.

The aggregate score from France's four group games was 42-0, and that included a 5-0 triumph over the United States, the defending champions.

A 3-1 quarter-final win over Argentina saw France concede for the first and only time, followed by a 3-0 victory versus Colombia in the semi-finals.

The US beat Colombia 6-3 to win the bronze medal.

The men's World Championship begins tomorrow at the same Pala Bolino Arena venue, with World Skate overseeing the tournament.
