As expected entering competition, Italy dominated the qualifying stages of the Lonato 2021 World Shooting Para Sport Para Trap World Championships, topping the scores in the mixed trap standing PT3 and the team mixed trap standing PT3.

Italy secured a one-two in the individual event, with Gabriele Nanni scoring 23 in the first round, 24 in the second and 22 in the third, for a field-leading total of 69.

Francesco Nespeca followed Nanni's score, with 67, scoring 24 in the final round to move clear of France's Jean-Michel Brune, who qualified third highest with a score of 62.

Another Italian, Emilio Poli came in fourth on 61, while the other only shooters within 10 of Nanni's 69 were Meliton Antonio Brinas Mora of Spain and Steve Nothum of Luxembourg.

In the team event, Italy again led the way.

The three-man team featured the top two qualifiers - Nanni and Nespeca - and Mirko Cafaggi, who qualified in ninth on 54.

As a result of their three individual scores, Italy totalled 190.

A massive 44 points in arrears were the Czech Republic, led by Jan Baumruk, who qualified eighth in the individual event.

The United States qualified third on 134 points, though none of their shooters topped 50 points, with Sophia Bultema, Brandy Elrod and Samuel Rudloff separated by just four points.

Competition continues tomorrow with the finals.
