Venezuela shot to the top of the super round group at the 2021 Under-23 Baseball World Cup after thrashing Cuba 11-0 at the Estadio Sonora in Mexico.

The South American side outhit their opponents 15-5 on their way to inflicting the heaviest defeat of the tournament.

Centre fielder Carlos Rodrίguez led the Venezuelans with a fantastic innings.

In four at bats, he registered two runs, three hits and two runs bat in to ensure an opening game victory in the super round for his team.

Later on in Hermosillo, the hosts disappointed 1,096 fans as they stumbled to a 2-0 loss to Panama.

Adrian Montero and Pitty Wright fired in two quick runs in the sixth innings and held on to shut out the defending champions.

In the third super round fixture, Colombia edged Chinese Taipei 5-4 in a nail-biting game.

The tie got off to an explosive start as Chen-Tso Tseng's side led 4-3 after the third innings.

However, the 2014 gold medallists were unable to score from then on while Gustavo Campero Patron and Jordan David Diaz Sandoval ran in the decisive runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Nicaragua also beat Czech Republic 3-0 while The Netherlands recorded a 5-2 win over Germany.
