Denmark and Kazakhstan won their opening two matches at the 2021 World Curling Federation (WCF) Pre-Olympic Qualification Event in Erzurum in Turkey, putting them on the front foot in the mixed doubles with places at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics on the line.

In the opening match of the opening day, Denmark's Jasmin Lander and Henrik Holtermann won 12-3 against Mexicans Estefana Quintero and Ismael Abreu, and in the evening session made it a second victory by beating Belgium's Veerle Geerinckx and Dirk Heylen 8-7.

Also on two wins is Kazakhstan's Angelina Ebauyer and Madiyar Korabayev who started with a 10-4 victory over Brazil's Anne Shibuya and Scott McMullan.

Ebauyer and Korabayev then defeated Nigerians Susana Cole and TJ Cole 8-7 in the evening.

Portugal's April Gale and Steve Seixeiro recorded a narrow 6-5 victory over Kyrgyzstan's Anastasiia Frolova and Ivan Osolodkov and in the same session, Latvia's Daina Barone and Arnis Veidemanis thumped Belarus' Tatsiana Tarsunova and Vitali Burmistrau 13-4.

Lithuanians Akvile Rykove and Konstantin Rykov also won by a 10-4 score line against Slovakia's Daniela Matulova and Juraj Gallo.

Ending the evening session, Turkey's Dilsat Yildiz and Ugurcan Karagoz thumped Slovenia's Andreja Prislan and Marko Bilcar 12-1, while Chinese Taipei's Amanda Chou and Brendon Liu won 10-2 against Austrians Hannah Augustin and Martin Reichel.

Two spots will be filled from the pre-qualification event, which features 16 teams.

From there, those teams will qualify for the Olympic Qualification Event in December in Leeuwarden in The Netherlands.

China already qualified as hosts, while Britain, Norway, Sweden, Canada, Italy, Switzerland and Czech Republic booked their spots due to their performances at the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship.

Mixed doubles playoffs are scheduled to take place on Friday (October 8).

Two men's and two women's spots are still to be determined at the event too, with competition set to start in these disciplines on Sunday (October 10) and Monday (October 11) respectively.

Those qualified teams are then to compete at the Olympic Qualification Event.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from February 4 to 20 2022.
