Britain's Katie Archibald won her 15th title at the European Track Cycling Championships by winning the women's scratch race on the opening day in Grenchen in Switzerland.

Claiming her first gold medal in the discipline, Archibald crossed the line to go top of the podium, joined by France's Valentine Fortin in second and Daria Pikulik of Poland in third.

Maike van der Duin of The Netherlands and Italian Martina Fidanza completed the top five.

Following was the men's elimination race, won by Russia's Sergei Rostovtsev who claimed the gold medal in front of Portugal's Joao Matias and Thomas Boudat of France.

It was Rostovtsev's first European senior title after taking bronze last year in the same race.

The Netherlands then won both the men's and women's team sprint gold medals.

In the women's, Olympic keirin champion Shanne Braspennincx, Kyra Lamberink and Hetty van der Wouw broke the world record in the final with a time of 46.551sec, beating the German trio of Lea Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Sophie Grabosch and Alessa-Catriona Propster.

In the race for bronze, Russians Nataliia Antonova, Daria Shmeleva and Yana Tyshchenko won in 46.795 against Britain's Lauren Bate, Blaine Ridge-Davis and Millicent Tanner.

Jeffrey Hoogland, Harrie Lavreysen and Roy van den Berg then claimed the men's gold for The Netherlands in a time of 42.302.

In the final, they defeated France's Timmy Gillion, Rayan Helal and Sebastien Vigier.

Polish riders Maciej Bielecki, Patryk Rajkowski and Mateusz Rudyk won the bronze in 43.007 against British trio Alistair Fielding, Joseph Truman and Hamish Turnbull.
