Eurovision Sport has agreed to a five-year broadcasting partnership with the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), producing and live streaming selected races at up to nine events per season.

Starting with the seven World Cups in the 2021-2022 season, the ISMF's brand is also to be promoted by background stories and additional content.

The European Championships in Boí Taüll in Spain and an exhibition event are on the cards as part of the first year of the deal.

Divided into two parts, the first phase of the agreement says Eurovision Sport will work with the ISMF to build a commercial model for the sport to help with development of its worldwide media and marketing rights for two years.

Over the following three years, Eurovision Sport is to assist in building the ski mountaineering calendar for more exposure.

"We are delighted to reach an agreement with ISMF," said Eurovision Sport executive director Glen Killane.

"Eurovision Sport, together with its members, we will apply an innovative, digital-first approach to a fast-rising sport.

"The agreement also represents a golden opportunity for Eurovision Sport to drive forward its agenda for sustainability and gender equality through cross-promotion with a sport that is noted for these qualities."

Ski mountaineering made its debut as a medal sport at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games and is set to make its Olympic debut at the Milan Cortina 2026 Games, having been added to the programme at the last International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Tokyo in July.

"We are convinced that the new partnership will allow us to take the media reach of our races to a significantly higher level," said ISMF President Thomas Kähr.

"Eurovision Sport, with its international broadcasting and online network, will be able to offer efficient multimedia services in close co-operation with our marketing department.

"Our main partners, such as the local race organisers and our commercial partners, as well as the skimo athletes, will benefit from the increased visibility on all relevant communication channels."
