Nomsa Mahlangu, senior director of sport at the University of Johannesburg, was honoured with a Legendary Sport Administrator Award by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government at the Mpumalanga Province Sports Awards due to her years of contribution to sports on a national, continental and international level.

As reported by Johannesburg-based newspaper Rosebank Killarney Gazette, Mahlangu said: "The recognition award comes at a time when sport has been challenged to reinvent and innovate. 

"Time has forced us, as sport practitioners at the different levels, to embrace technology a bit more. 

"I am grateful to the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation for the recognition."

Mahlangu is the President of University Sport South Africa, the Federation of Africa University Sport (FASU) and is a continent representative at the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

Elected in 2019, Mahlangu became the first female FASU President.

She is said to have helped developed the UJ's sport department and student-athletes across the continent with the organisation of events such as the FISU Volunteer Academy, African Championships and other accredited world competitions.

The FISU World University Games have never been held in Africa.
