Iran is set to stage its National Paralympic Day as it looks to profit from the success of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The Iranian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) is due to celebrate the annual celebration on Saturday (October 16) in Tehran’s Olympic and Paralympic Academy.

It will be the 14th time Iran has celebrated National Paralympic Day, with the event becoming part of the national calendar by a Presidential order in 2016.

The main goals of the NPC are to introduce the Paralympic Movement to Iranian society, contribute to the inclusion of people with disabilities, change attitudes towards people with disabilities and provide them with social opportunities.

"We are going to motivate the Iranian families to participate in the National Paralympic Day," said NPC secretary general Mohammad Tabe in a report by the Tehran Times.

"The children with impairment should be encouraged to participate in the sports.

"The National Paralympic Day can help us to identify the talented children as well."

Iran ranked 13th in the medal table at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics after racking up 12 golds, 11 silvers and one bronze.

In total, Iran has achieved 60 golds, 48 silvers and 45 bronzes since making its Paralympic debut at Seoul 1988.
