Nate Smith and Jaimee Bull were crowned champions in the men's and women's open divisions at the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) World Waterski Championships in Florida in the United States.

Smith was the last competitor to take to the water in the men's slalom and had a difficult job ahead of him to beat Thomas Degasperi.

The Italian rounded three buoys with the rope at 10.25 metres, but Smith bettered that by clearing one buoy with a 9.75m rope.

The American was just one and a half buoys away from equalling the world record he set in 2013.

Britain's William Asher rounded out the top three with a score of 3.00/58/10.25.

Bull of Canada claimed the women's title following her run on a 10.25m rope which saw the two-time under-21 world champion round two buoys.

Regina Jaquess of the US secured the silver medal after clearing one buoy at the same length while Manon Costard took home the bronze.

Despite setting her best score with a longer rope than some, at 10.75m, the Frenchwoman passed 4.5 buoys which was enough to see her enter the top three.

Elsewhere in the women's tricks final, American Anna Gay blew the competition away to score 10,440 points with an unmatchable routine.

Neilly Ross came second with 9,880.

The Canadian scored 4,190 points on her first pass before recording 5,690 points on the second pass to ensure she won the silver medal.

Gay's compatriot Erika Lang then completed the podium after putting up 9,580 points on the board.
