FISU's Technical Committee visited the centres more than 18 months after the tour had been initially planned, owing to coronavirus-related delays.

An inspection had been due to take place in March 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed it.

"Overall, the Committee was very pleased with the progress made by both venues," said Rick Patzke, Lake Placid 2023's director of competition services, in comments reported by the Sun Community News.

"It was their first opportunity to review the planned competition venues and work on finalising the competition schedule."

Whiteface is to host slalom, giant slalom, super-G and mixed parallel Alpine skiing events, while Gore Mountain is due to stage freestyle skiing, freeski and snowboard events such as ski cross, big air and slopestyle, plus snowboard cross, parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom.

"After touring our venues and meeting with some of our staff, I think we all left feeling confident about where we are right now in preparation for the upcoming ski events," added Whiteface general manager Aaron Kellett.

"Both Whiteface and Gore are excited to be a part of the World University Games and look forward to welcoming many of the world's best collegiate Alpine, freeski and snowboarders."

More than 2,500 student-athletes and coaches from 60 nations are expected to compete in 12 sports and 86 events at the 2023 edition of the FISU Winter World University Games.

The Lake Placid Olympic Speed Skating Oval and the North Elba Athletic Complex recently were inspected by FISU technicians too.

In March 2022, the Lake Placid Olympic Speed Skating Oval is due to hold the FISU Speed Skating World Championship, while the North Elba Athletic Complex is scheduled to host the FISU World University Beach Volleyball Championship in August 2022.
