The Australian snowboarder, who competed at the Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, had his sperm taken posthumously which allowed his partner Ellidy Pullin to undergo IVF treatment and become pregnant.

She announced the birth of their baby on social media and revealed her name as Minnie Alex Pullin.

"Your Dad and I have been dreaming of you for years little one," Pullin wrote.

"With a heart wrenching plot twist in the middle, I am honoured to finally welcome a piece of the phenomenon that is Chumpy back into this world!"

In Pullin's podcast, she revealed that she and her husband had been trying to conceive before his death but had been struggling and were considering IVF.

In an earlier social media post, she admitted she never imagined that she would be "tackling [pregnancy]" on her own.

"Bittersweet like none other, I've never been more certain or excited about anything in my entire life," she wrote.

Alex Pullin died by drowning while spearfishing off the Gold Coast of Australia in July 2020 aged 32.

His body was spotted on the ocean floor by a snorkeler before lifeguards attempted to resuscitate him using CPR for between 45 and 50 minutes but he did not recover.

The Victoria-native was a two-time champion at the Snowboarding World Championships, winning gold in the 2011 and 2013 snowboard cross events.
