New Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) President Mario Moccia has launched a strategic plan until 2032 in a bid to improve the country's performance.

Moccia was elected to the top job last month, replacing Gerardo Werthein who stepped down after 12 years.

Argentina failed to win an Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020, coming home with one silver and two bronzes, and Moccia has targeted youth.

"We are going to work with an open policy to build strategic planning towards 2032, and start a plan with young people that will allow us to have a period of 11 years to project and enhance their participation in the Games," he said.

"It is also necessary to recover the level of some sports in terms of achieving results.

"In this strategic planning we plan to work at the national level.

"We have to collaborate in each of the particularities that sport has, because we are not only talking about the elite, or high-performance sport, but also about working on training, on sport for all, on inclusion, on how to promote the organisation of national and international events and infrastructure development.

"We understand that sport is a central axis for social development.

"Sport is education, health, caring for the environment and an axis for the containment of young people and training through values."

Moccia served as general secretary of the COA from 2009.

He is also first vice-president of Panam Sports, first vice-president of the South American Sports Organization and general secretary of ENARD, his country's national high performance sports body.

Three editions of the Summer Olympics are scheduled in the timeframe of the strategic plan - Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
