Fighting in the under-53 kilograms division, Yepez Guzman beat Russian Wrestling Federation's (RWF) Ekaterina Verbina 4-0 in the final to claim gold.

The bronze medals went to Mariia Vynnyk of Ukraine and Moldova's Mariana Dragutan. 

"It's a historic medal for Ecuador," Yepez Guzman said. 

"I have been training for this for 10 years and I had studied the Russian wrestler. 

"I am happy to win this."

Yepez Guzman's gold was the first of an eventful evening, which was mostly dominated by Ukraine, winning three of the five golds on offer.

First, Alina Hrushyna Akobiia defeated the RWF's Kristina Mikhneva in the 57kg category, with Esther Omolayo Kolawole of Nigeria and Hannah Fay Taylor of Canada winning bronze.

Then Anastasiia Lavrenchuk claimed gold in the 65kg division, again overcoming an RWF opponent, this time Dinara Kudaeva Salikhova, who had to settle silver.

India's Nisha Nisha and Turkey's Asli Demir won the bronze medals.

And finally, Anastasiya Alpyeyeva claimed gold in the 72kg category, dispatching France's Kendra Augustine Jocelyne Dacher 4-1.

Italy's Eleni Pjollaj and India's Divya Kakran claimed the bronze medals.

In the only other final of the day, Canada's Ana Paula Godinez Gonzalez prevented Ukraine from another title, beating Kateryna Zelenkyh 10-7 to win gold in the 62kg.

India's Radhika Radhika and Anastasiia and Parokhina won bronze.

Ukraine's dominance meant it won its first-ever team title, winning three gold, two silver and two bronze medals across the women's weight divisions.
