More than 220,000 people applied to be a volunteer at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

The recruitment drive for volunteers closed on October 31.

The Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee said 67 per cent of the total applicants were college-age students, while over 15,000 applicants are fluent in speaking a minority language.

Before the end of April 2022, volunteers will now be selected, whittled down via a series of online tests, onsite or remote interviews, psychological tests and tests to determine their proficiency in English.

Selected volunteers will be deployed across 13 sectors to ensure the smooth running of the Games.

The tasks will centre on welcoming guests, language support, logistics, transportation, accommodation, media operations, concierge, personnel registration, and spectator services.

Around 52,000 volunteers will be used t the main venue in Hangzhou.

Volunteers will also be sent to other host cities including Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing and Jinhua.

The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games are due to run from September 10 to 25 next year.
