It was a successful day for Sweden at the International Bowling Federation (IBF) Super World Championships as the country had three pairs progress to the semi-finals of the men's and women's events in Dubai.

Jesper Svensson and Pontus Andersson, who topped Group A with ease, met American pairing AJ Johnson and Jakob Butturff in the quarter-final at the Dubai International Bowling Centre.

A closely fought match eventually went the way of the Swedes as they set up a last four tie with Aidas Daniunas and Laurynas Narusis.

The Lithuanians beat Malaysian duo Safiq Ridhwan and Nevern Netaneel in the first knockout round.

In the other half of the bracket, James Blomgren and William Svensson of Sweden emulated their compatriots result by dispatching Italy's Tommaso Radi and Erik Davolio.

Americans Andrew Anderson and Kris Prather await them in the semi-finals.

In the women's doubles, Sandra Andersson and Joline Planefors ensured that Sweden's bowlers went unbeaten on the day as they got the better of neighbours Grether Fosseine and Jeanet Johansen of Norway.

The pair are set for another Scandinavian showdown as Cecilie Dam and Mika Guldbaek of Denmark await them in the last four following a comprehensive victory over Cherie Tan and New Hui Fen.

Elsewhere, Germany's Janin Ribguth and Martina Shutz booked their places in the next round at the expense of Missy Prkin and Kelly Kulick of the United States to set up a semi-final clash with Konsteri Peppi and Juntunen Ani of Finland.

The action is scheduled to continue tomorrow in Dubai with the male and female singles round of 32 and quarter-finals.
