Tokyo 2020 senior manager of international communications Tristan Lavier has been appointed head of communications at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).

Lavier has joined the ITTF after the expiry of his contract with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee following the conclusion of the Games.

He worked on Tokyo's successful bid for the Games before becoming manager, and then senior manger, of international communications.

Lavier has moved to Singapore to take up the position with table tennis' worldwide governing body.

"After an incredible experience in Tokyo, I am delighted to join the ITTF Group and to become part of the table tennis community," Lavier told insidethegames

"Both exciting and inclusive, table tennis is one of the world’s most followed sport, with a long and storied history.

"With the different activities of the ITTF, WTT, and the ITTF Foundation, I am very excited by the various perspectives and communication opportunities this new mission offers and I will work to ensure our sport is at the forefront of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements."

ITTF chief executive Steve Dainton welcomed the Frenchman to the role.

"With the transition that the ITTF has been making with the ITTF Foundation and World Table Tennis (WTT), it was vital to ensure synergies in communications between the three entities," said Dainton.

"Tristan Lavier brings with him a wealth of experience that will ensure we professionalise even further in the communications space and ensure that our goals and objectives are well understood."

Lavier's first key task will be overseeing communications at the ITTF World Championships and General Assembly in Houston.

The World Championships are set to run from November 23 to 29, with the ITTF's Annual General Meeting - including the election of Petra Sörling as President - scheduled for November 24.
