Hugo Calderano of Brazil has won his second International Table Tennis Federation Pan American Championships title, while Puerto Rico's Adriana Díaz battled in Lima to secure her third gold.

The world number six Calderano faced Canada's Eugene Wang in the men's singles decider at Peru's Villa Deportiva Nacional.

Calderano took the lead twice but was pegged back immediately both times to take the match to 2-2.

The 2017 champion saved his best performances until last as he dominated Wang in the final two games to pull off an 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-3, 11-8 victory.

Calderano had crushed compatriot Vitor Ishy 4-0 in the semi-finals.

Puerto Rico's Adriana Díaz prevented a Brazilian clean sweep of the singles events as she beat Brazilian Bruna Takahashi 4-3 in a gripping match in the women's tournament.

The three-times Pan American Games gold medallist found herself on the brink of defeat but rallied from behind to secure a memorable 4-3 win, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 9-11, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7.

Díaz has now won three singles titles at the tournament after picking up gold medals in 2017 and 2018.

Takahashi had beaten 2019 champion Lily Zhang on her way to the final to end the American's title defence.

It was a perfect day for Díaz as she also won gold in the women's doubles with her sister, Melanie.

The Puerto Rican pair recovered from a shaky start to overcome Chile's Daniela Ortega and Paulina Vega 8-11, 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8.

Gastón Alto and Horacio Cifuentes defended their men's doubles crown from the 2019 event in Asunción.

The Argentinians beat Chile's Juan Lamadrid and Gustavo Gomez 11-8, 6-11, 13-11, 11-6.

Prior to their singles disappointments, Ishiy and Takahashi won their first mixed doubles tournament at the Pan American Championships since 2017.

The duo down Cifuentes and Camila Arguelles 11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7.

The action is due to conntinue tomorrow in Lima with the beginning of the women's team and men's team tournaments.
