The Palestine Olympic Committee opened its new headquarters on Sunday ©POC

The Palestine Olympic Committee (POC) has opened its permanent headquarters in Al-Ram, which was followed by holding its General Assembly.

President of the POC, Jibril Rajoub, officially opened the headquarters in the town, just north of Jerusalem on Sunday (November 14).

He welcomed representatives from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC).

Haider Farman, director of the Asian Games department, represented the OCA, alongside Abdulhadi Mohammad.

JOC secretary general Nasser Majali and vice-president Sari Hamdan also attended.

All but four of the 57 members of the POC were in attendance at the General Assembly, with the agenda including a message of support for the National Olympic Committee from the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

Rajoub said the new headquarters continued the development of sports infrastructure in Palestine and stressed the importance of sport in the country to unite people.

It follows the opening of the Olympic Medical Centre, Sports Court and Olympic Academy, with plans now in place for an Olympic Preparation Centre.

Farman said the OCA was proud of the development of sport in Palestine and congratulated them on the move to the new building.

The Sports Court, the Olympic Ethics and Compliance Bill and the Olympic Law for the Prevention of Manipulation of Sports Competitions documents were approved at the General Assembly.
