The International University Sports Federation's (FISU) Championships and World Cups department has toured several host cities to inspect preparations for the upcoming 2022 season.

The 2022 FISU Championships and World Cups calendar includes seven FISU University World Cups and 15 FISU World University Championships across 18 countries with two new hosting countries of Kosovo and Argentina.

"We are thrilled for these upcoming FISU World University Championships and FISU University World Cups season," said Juan-Carlos Holgado, FISU sports director.

"The organisation is on full speed and we are excited to watch and attend these events that were cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic limitations."

The inspection visits took place in Jachymov and Liberec in the Czech Republic for ski orienteering and floorball, respectively.

Italy's Lignano Sabbiadoro and Torino also hosted the delegation to check up on its progress for staging finswimming and golf events.

Other visits saw officials travel to Innsbruck in Austria for sport climbing, Kosovan capital Pristina for handball, Moscow and Ekaterinburg in Russia for powerlifting and combat sports, Biel/Bien in Switzerland for orienteering and Heraklion in Greece for cheerleading.

A visit to the Portuguese city of Aveiro, which is hosting the cross country competition, included a discussion with the University of Aveiro’s architect.

An explanation was provided about the route design that will be constructed for the event, which will remain in place as a legacy for students once the event finishes.

The speed skating and beach volleyball visit inspections, held in the United States' Lake Placid, marked an opportunity to test functional areas for the Organising Committee in preparation for the 2023 Lake Placid FISU World University Games, which is set to take place on January 12 to 22 2023.

Ski orienteering is due to be the first FISU World University Championships event, from February 22 to 26, while the cheerleading competition in Heraklion from November 4 to 6 is set to conclude the season.
