Reddy had been SASCOC chief executive for almost a nine years, having been appointed to the post in February 2009.

He was ultimately sacked in January 2018 - six months after being suspended - following a lengthy investigation into misconduct which focused on claims he sent pornographic material to female colleagues.

It was also alleged that Reddy had failed to follow proper labour practice when he appointed a company to investigate SASCOC staff.

Reddy repeatedly denied wrongdoing, claiming he was targeted by groups who wanted to gain control of SASCOC.

Having been found guilty of 15 offences, Reddy hit back at SASCOC, accusing the organisation of squandering money meant for athletes and insisting the claim of sexual harassment was "total fabrication and vindictiveness".

Despite the unsavoury end to his SASCOC tenure, the National Olympic Committee issued a statement saying it was "saddened at the news of the passing" of Reddy, expressing "sincere condolences to the Reddy family and friends".

Reddy notably led Durban's successful bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

However, after winning the right to stage the event in 2015, Durban was stripped of the honour in 2017 following a series of missed financial deadlines.

Reddy was also a former Volleyball South Africa President, and Honorary Life President of the organisation.
