The penultimate International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating series event of the 2021-2022 season begins tomorrow at the Patinoire PoleSud in the French city of Grenoble, with 60 competitors set to take part including women's singles world champion Anna Shcherbakova of Russia.

The Internationaux de France follows series events in Las Vegas in the United States, Vancouver in Canada, Turin in Italy and the Japanese capital Tokyo.

Shcherbakova secured gold at the Gran Premio d’Italia in Turin earlier this month and is among the favourites for victory in the women's singles competition.

Her compatriot Alena Kostornaia, a 2020 European champion and winner of the ISU Grand Prix Final in 2019-2020, is also likely to be in contention, along with Japan's Wakaba Higuchi, a silver medallist at the 2018 World Championships.

The men's title in Turin went to Yuma Kagiyama of Japan, and the World Championships silver medallist and Winter Youth Olympics champion is set to feature again in Grenoble.

Kévin Aymoz, a bronze medallist two years ago at the Grand Prix Final, is returning for the first time since being forced to withdraw from the event in Las Vegas.

He could lead the hosts' hopes of success at the Internationaux de France.

Dmitri Aliev, the 2020 European champion, will continue his season, with fellow Russian Andrei Mozalev - last year's junior world champion - adding to the line-up.

Their compatriots Aleksandra Boikova and Dmitrii Kozlovskii headline the entries to the pairs event, having earned bronze at the World Championships in the Swedish capital Stockholm back in March.

Another pair from Russia - Iuliia Artemeva and Mikhail Nazarychev - placed third at the Gran Premio d’Italia, while American champions Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier could also stake a claim for victory.

The hosts' hopes in the ice dance competition rest on the shoulders of four-time world champions Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, who earned victory in Turin earlier this month - France's only gold medal on this year's Grand Prix to date.

Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin of Russia arrive having taken bronze at the Gran Premio d’Italia, while Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier are bidding for their second victory on this year's circuit after securing a home win at Skate Canada in Vancouver.

Competition starts tomorrow with the short programme for the women's, men's and pairs competitions, and the ice dance's rhythm dance.

Winners will be decided on Saturday (November 20) following the women's, men's and pairs free skating, and the free dance in the ice dance.

An exhibition gala is then scheduled for Sunday (November 21).

The final Grand Prix series event of the season is scheduled for November 26 to 28 in the form of the Rostelecom Cup in Sochi, before Osaka in Japan hosts the Grand Prix of figure Skating Final from December 9 to 12.
