Scotland, Germany and Switzerland lead the women's standings after day one of the European Curling Championships in Lillehammer with two wins from two, but defending champions Sweden suffered a slip-up.

Switzerland, skipped by Silvana Tirinzoni, are the reigning world champions and opened their campaign with a 10-8 victory against Turkey.

An 8-3 win versus the Czechs followed in the evening session at Håkons Hall, a 1994 Winter Olympic venue.

Scotland’s skip Eve Muirhead is seeking a 10th European medal and oversaw a 7-4 win against Russia and an 8-2 drubbing of Denmark.

The Russians bounced back, however, beating Sweden 5-6 in the late window.

Germany's wins came over Estonia, 13-3, and Italy, 6-4.

Sweden won 5-3 against the Czechs in their other game, so the opening day was not without merit for them.

Italy beat Denmark 8-5 and Turkey overcame Estonia 8-5 in the day's other women's A-Division matches.

In the men's tournament, where Sweden are also defending champions, they fell 6-2 versus Scotland.

Finland beat Germany 8-3, Norway edged past Switzerland 7-6, Italy thrashed Denmark 9-1 and the Czechs enjoyed a 7-5 win against the Dutch.

The European Championships continue tomorrow, scheduled to conclude on November 27.
