The Netherlands celebrated two titles as the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships concluded at Mussanah in Oman.

Odile van Aanholt and Elise de Ruyter had led the 49erFX event heading into the final day of the competition.

The duo held a 17-point lead over Norway’s Helene Næss and Marie Rønningen.

Naess and Ronning closed the gap in the penultimate race of the competition, putting the leaders under pressure in the medal race.

De Ruyter and Van Aanholt sealed victory with a third-place finish in today’s medal race.

The pairing ended top of the standings on 75 points.

Næss and Rønningen finished as the runners-up on 83 points after ending second in the medal race, with Brazil’s Olympic champions Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze completing the top three on 94.

The Netherlands’ Bart Labriex and Lars wan de Werken suffered a setback in the penultimate race of men’s competition, allowing Germany’s Tim Fischer and Fabian Graf a way back into the 49er class.

The Dutch pairing responded impressively by winning the medal race.

Their performance returned the pair to the top of standings on 92 points.

Fischer and Graf finished in second place, ending two points behind the winners.


Denmark’s Frederik Rask and Jakob Precht Jensen completed the podium positions after ending on a score of 112 points, one clear of fourth-placed Ian Barrows and Hans Henken from the United States.

Britain's Tokyo 2020 silver medallists John Gimson and Anna Burnet sealed victory in the Nacra 17 class.

The pairing finished third in the medal race to seal victory with an overall total of 61 points.

Italy's Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei ended as the runners-up on 70, after winning the medal race.

Germany's Paul Kohlhoff and Alicia Stuhlemmer match their Olympic performance by earning World Championship bronze.

Kohlhoff and Stuhlemmer finished on 77 points.
