The event at the Olympic Sliding Centre marked the first time three athletes had tied at the top of the standings in a IBSF World Cup event.

Weston had led the competition at the halfway point with the British athlete clocking 53.09sec in his opening run, 0.01 seconds faster than second placed Weng.

World champion Grotheer was 0.07 seconds off the pace in third, but the German closed the gap in the second run by topping the standings on 52.88.

Geng and Weston achieved times of 52.94 and 52.95 in the second run.

This saw all three athletes finish with a combined time of 1min 46.04sec.

Both Geng and Weston were able to celebrate their maiden World Cup victories, with the former’s success coming just 70 days from the start of a home Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

Weston became the first British men’s skeleton World Cup winner since Kristan Bromley back in 2008.

South Korea’s Seunggi Jung finished with his best World Cup result by ending fourth in 1:46.18.

Grotheer assumed the World Cup lead following the joint victory in Austria, with the German having secured 425 points from the season’s opening two events.

Russia’s Alexander Tretiakov, winner of the first event in Innsbruck earlier this month, lies second in the standings on 377 points.

Tretiakov placed ninth in today’s event.

Elena Nikitina secured back-to-back wins in Innsbruck in the women's competition.

The Russian athlete led the competition after achieving a first run time of 53.80, an advantage of 0.23 over the Netherlands' Kimberley Bos.

Nikitina recorded the third fastest time in the second run, with an effort of 54.03 giving her an overall time of 1:47.83.

Bos finished as the runner-up at 0.20 down.

The podium was completed by Italy's Valentina Margaglio, who finished 0.45 behind the winner after recording the fastest second run.

Women’s monobob and men’s two-man bobsleigh competition will be held tomorrow, before the two-woman and men’s four-man bobsleigh events on Sunday (November 28).
