Russia enjoyed a superb second day at the World Taekwondo Women's Open Championships in Riyadh as athletes booked final places in all three weight divisions contested.

The under-49 kilograms gold medal match will be an all-Russian affair after Anna Kazarnovskaia and Galina Medvedeva battled through.

Kazarnovskaia defeated Maddison Moore of Britain 20-13 in her last four clash at The Green Halls in the Saudi Arabian capital.

Medvedeva came through 21-18 against Mexico's Pan American Games champion Daniela Souza.

In the under-57kg division, Russia's Margarita Blizniakova reached the final by beating Poland's Patrycja Adamkiewicz 20-5 in the last four.

She will now face Zahra Sheidaei of Iran for gold, after her 17-9 success over Britain's Aaliyah Powell.

Polina Khan will be Russia's representative in the under-73kg final thanks to her victory in the golden point period against Melika Mirhosseini of Iran.

Her opponent will be France's Tokyo 2020 Olympic over-67kg bronze medallist Althéa Laurin, who saw off her compatriot Marie-Paule Blé 3-0.

The last day of the event tomorrow will see the start of the under-53kg and under-67kg events.

All eight finals will then round off the Championships.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue has claimed that staging the event, which is taking place for the first time, in Riyadh will help promote gender equality in the Middle East.
