Beijing 2022 says equipment has been installed the three competition zones in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.

Organisers had previously announced plans to use 3D small-scale observation and data analysis systems at the Games.

Plans for accurate 3D meteorological field models for sports due to be held in the mountains, such as Alpine skiing, were also outlined.

The Beijing Institute of Urban Meteorology is leading forecasting at Beijing 2022.

The institute is being supported by Hebei Province Meteorological Bureau, National Meteorological Center, Beijing Meteorological Service and China Meteorological Administration Public Meteorological Service Center.

The Beijing Meteorological Service has expressed confidence in the forecasting system for the Games, following assessments during test events.

"The weather forecasting system developed by the meteorological team of Beijing 2022 performed well during the test events, which enabled accurate weather forecast by the minute for a range of 100 metres,” Beijing Meteorological Service deputy director Liang Feng told the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.

"The three competition zones now can coordinate to provide meteorological service for participants during the Games."

Organisers say the ability to assess wind speed, wind direction, temperature and humidity are crucial for the Games, ensuring competitions can be held and protecting athletes from unnecessary risk.

Weather is particularly crucial for sports on the Winter Olympic and Paralympic programme, particularly those which take place in the mountains.

A number of events were delayed or postponed at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

This included Alpine skiing and snowboarding competitions, which were disrupted due to high winds.
