Belgium's Emma Plasschaert took the lead at the International Laser Class Association 6 World Championships after winning the only race held today in Oman.

Plasschaert, the former world champion, occupies top spot on a net total of 16 points.

She has a narrow one-point advantage over Germany’s Julia Buesselberg, who came into the second day of racing as the one to beat.

Buesselberg remains on 17 points after discarding her result.

Agata Barwinska of Poland is third following a fourth-place finish in today's race.

Barwinska is a further point adrift of Plasschaert on 18.

Oman’s Al Muatasim Al Farsi extended his lead in the men's event, which features only nine sailors, with victory in today's sole race.

Slovenia’s Nik Pletikos and Oman’s Abdul Malik Al Hinai are on 11 and 12 points in second and third, respectively.

Racing is scheduled to continue tomorrow.
