Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic curling silver medallists South Korea lost to Turkey in their second match on the opening day of matches in the round-robin stage of the women's competition at the World Curling Federation Olympic Qualification Event.

South Korea, who became known as the "Garlic Girls" in 2018 and were one of the stories of the Games, beat Latvia 10-4 in the morning session, before losing to Turkey in the evening session 21-7 to sit fourth in the standings.

Atop the table is Estonia and Japan, who both have two wins from two today.

Estonia beat Turkey 12-11 in the morning session, before returning to down the Czech Republic 6-5 in the evening and secure two narrow wins.

Japan, who won the bronze medal in 2018, beat Italy 11-6 and Germany 7-6.

The only other team with a 100 per cent record is Scotland, led by Eve Muirhead. 

They defeated the Czech Republic 7-5 in their only match of the day.

In the men's competition, Denmark lead the way, having squeezed past The Netherlands 5-4.

Italy defeated South Korea 7-3 to move on par with Denmark, while Japan narrowly beat Germany 6-5 and Norway defeated the Czech Republic 8-5.

Competition continues tomorrow as the round-robin stages in the men's and women's events continue.
