The Chinese squad has been overseen by head coach Peter Kotnik, with the Slovenian having been appointed to the position in 2015.

Kotnik told the Chinese state news agency Xinhua that the squad were seeking to secure places at the Games, but faced a challenging prospect having been largely absent from the circuit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our basic goal is for the competitors to qualify for the Olympics, after that we can start thinking about a podium," Kotnik said.

"If you do not compete for over a year that can be compared to an injury, you need time to come back."

China were represented by three athletes in parallel snowboard events at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

Gong Naiying, Xu Xiaoxiao and Zang Ruxin competed in the women’s competition at the Games, but were unable to advance from qualification to the knockout stage of the event.

Gong enjoyed a breakthrough performance in 2019 when she earned a maiden World Cup win at a home event in Secret Garden.

She has since achieved two further top 10 finishes on the World Cup circuit, but has yet to advance from qualification at the three events held this season.

Dong Xue and Peng Cheng achieved China’s highest finishes in women’s racing at Bannoye in Russia earlier this month, while Gong ranked highest in qualification in Carezza in Italy.

Kong Binbin narrowly missed out on the knockout stage at the latest World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo, placing 17th with the top 16 advancing.

China were not represented in the men’s event at Pyeongchang 2018.

Qin Zihan achieved China’s highest men’s results at World Cup events in Bannoye and in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
