China’s Eileen Ailing Gu finished second in women’s freeski slopestyle and first in halfpipe qualifying at the latest World Cup at Mammoth Mountain in the United States.

Canada’s Olivia Asselin topped qualifying scoring 93 points in the slopestyle discipline, with Gu second on 90 points.

Kelly Sildaru of Estonia qualified in third place with 86.50 points.

Ten competitors are set to line up in the final, scheduled for Saturday (January 8).

Men’s freeski slopestyle qualifying is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Friday).

Women’s qualifying was originally scheduled to take place on the same day before being brought forward.

Gu was the top performer in the women's freeski halfpipe qualifying, picking up 90 points.

The US' Hanna Faulhaber notched 86.50, and Li Fanghui of China 85.25.

They were among the 10 athletes who progressed to tomorrow's final.

In the men’s freeski halfpipe, the United States occupied the top three places in qualifying from the first of two heats.

David Wise led the standings with a score of 86.33, with Aaron Blunck in second on 85.00 and Birk Irving placing third with 83.66.

Lyman Currier of the United States topped the second heat with a score of 89.33, despite a crash on his second run.

New Zealanders occupied the next two spots, with Nico Porteous in second with 85.33 and his brother Miguel Porteous in third place on 83.00.

Men’s and women’s freeski halfpipe World Cup competitions are scheduled to take place under the floodlights tomorrow night.
