After finishing second behind Eggert and Benecken in yesterday’s competition, the Latvian brothers gained revenge on their home track today.

The World Cup leaders set a track record of 31.157sec as Eggert and Benecken had to settle for silver in 31.178.

Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany came third for the second successive day after crossing in 31.226.

It was the Šics siblings' first victory since triumphing in the sprint in Sochi in Russia in early December.

This win also increases their lead in the overall World Cup standings to 773 points.

Eggert and Benecken are second on 691, with Wendl and Arlt third on 626.

The top two in the men’s singles event also swapped places, with Germany's Felix Loch getting the better of Kristers Aparjods of Latvia.

Aparjods beat Loch to top spot yesterday, but he was unable to deliver another home success as the German responded in fine fashion.

Loch crossed in 27.891 as Aparjods finished second in 27.833 and Italy’s Dominik Fischnaller came third in 27.890.

Johannes Lugwig came 12th but remains the frontrunner on the World Cup leaderboard with 737 points.

Austria’s Wolfgang Kindl is second with 636, while Aparjods and Fischnaller are joint third on 567.

The women’s sprint competition was won by Russia’s Tatyana Ivanova after registering a track-record time of 31.241.

Ivanova overcame the challenge of Germany’s Olympic champion Natalie Geisenberger, who clocked 31.255, while Austria’s Madeleine Egle finished third in 31.272.

Earlier, Egle produced runs of 42.087 and 42.105 to win the singles competition in 1:24.192.

World Cup leader Julia Taubitz came second in 1:24.372, with Ivanova taking third spot in 1:24.410.

Taubitz leads the women’s standings on 834 points, with Egle sitting second in 762 and Geisenberger third on 612.

Oberhof in Germany is scheduled to host the next leg of the Luge World Cup from January 15 to 16.
