Canadian Marielle Thompson will be looking to upset the favourite Sweden's Sandra Näslund once again in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup season, as the next leg of the circuit heads to home snow at Nakiska.

Thompson, who won in Arosa last month, is the only skier to defeat the Swede this season, who has five race victories from six.

Näslund's fourth-place finish that day in Switzerland was partly caused by a collision, meaning she finished last in the big final.

The double header gives the Canadian two bites at the cherry to topple an athlete who looked almost unstoppable before the New Year.

However, the consistent defending World Cup champion Fanny Smith will likely be Näslund's most fierce adversary.

The Swiss athlete has five silver medals from six races, usually being runner-up to the World Cup leader from Sweden.

Thompson's compatriots Zoe Chore and Brittany Phelan will be considered among the contenders for a podium, as will Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France.

Anyone beating Näslund might be considered a shock result, but that same dominance does not apply in the men's competition, which has had six winners from six so far.

The World Cup leader is Innichen winner, Bastien Midol, who tops the standings in front of compatriot Terence Tchiknavorian of France, the victor in Val Thorens.

Tchiknavorian has two silvers to his name too, much like his team mate.

Ryan Regez from Switzerland sits third overall having won in Innichen too, with other victors this year being Sergey Ridzik of Russia, Alex Fiva of Switzerland and David Mobärg from Sweden.

Austrians Johannes Rohrweck and Tristan Takats are fourth and fifth overall in the standings but have yet to win a race so far this season, with the same applying to Italian Simone Deromedis.

Qualification is scheduled for tomorrow, followed by race days on Friday (January 14) and Saturday (January 15).
