Germany's opening fixture of European qualifying for the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Men's Water Polo World League has been postponed after a COVID-19 outbreak within the German camp.

The match, scheduled to take place today in Berlin, was set to be Germany's first game under the leadership of new head coach Petar Porobić.

The Montenegrin has  tested positive, as have a number of players.

The game is set to be rescheduled prior to the World League's European finals, which take place from April 28 to 30.

"FINA, in consultation with the Germany and France, as well as the FINA COVID-19 Task Force, has taken the decision to postpone the FINA Men's Water Polo World League European Qualification 2022 match between Germany and France due to a small number of positive COVID-19 cases," FINA told insidethegames.

"The health and wellbeing of athletes and staff is FINA’s highest priority and the decision to postpone the match has been taken in the best interests of everyone involved.

"The date for the rescheduled match will be announced as soon as possible.

"All other qualification fixtures will continue as scheduled."

Germany's next Group B fixture is due to be against Spain on March 7 .

Elsewhere today, Hungary host reigning champions Montenegro in Group A, Serbia meet Italy in Group C and Croatia travel to Greece in Group D.
