Norway's women became the first team to earn a playoff spot at the curling World Qualification Event after beating Denmark 7-4 in Lohja in Finland.

Both teams were undefeated going into the match, but Marianne Roervik's side showed their class to jeopardise their opponents chances of securing a place at the World Championships.

Denmark were 3-2 up going into the eighth end but a three-point haul gave Norway an unassailable lead.

Despite pulling one point back in the ninth end, it was not enough as Madeleine Dupont suffered her first defeat of the competition.

In the afternoon session, the Norwegians tasted further success with a 9-5 triumph over Brazil which secured their progression into the next round.

Latvia are now level with Denmark, with three wins and one loss each, following their 12-2 demolition of Brazil.

Isis Oliveira and Brazil threw in the towel after the seventh end in a stunning display from Latvian skip Evelina Barone.

As a result, the Brazilians sit in rock bottom losing five games from five.

Elsewhere, hosts Finland took their third win of the tournament after beating Hong Kong 11-9, who were dealt a win by default against Czech Republic who withdrew from the event after a COVID-19 outbreak.

In the men's draw. Finland continued their impressive displays with an 8-1 win against Japan to improve to four wins and one loss to solidify their claim of pole position.
