Amputee football players have taken part in an introductory Para teqball event staged in El Salvador's capital San Salvador.

The Peña Betica de Fubolistas Amputados amputee football club, sponsored by Spanish football club Real Betis, performed training drills in Para teqball and engaged in some friendly matchplay.

Ten Para athletes played the sport for the first time, with three Teq Lite tables used to maximise the playing time.

The International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) said the event aimed to showcase Para teqball's "inclusivity" as well as its "commitment to supporting the growth of Para sport".

It is hoped that teqball and Para teqall will continue their growth in El Salvador and be made available to all "regardless of age, gender, or background".

Event organiser Roberto Iglesias said it offered an important opportunity for all those who took part.

"For all the participants at the event, sport has acted as a release from difficult periods of their lives, with many losing limbs tragically due to traffic accidents," Iglesias said.

"As a result of this event, many of the Para athletes were able to engage with a new sport, and understand the exciting opportunities to represent their country in the future.

"As the athletes had only previously seen videos of Para teqball, they were all very excited and impressed by the equipment being used and the enjoyment the sport offers.

"Para teqball is clear evidence that sport and Para sport has no limits.

"Our main aim is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience teqball and Para teqball.

"Events like this open the door to new people and allow us to introduce the sport to people for the first time, regardless of their personal circumstances.

"This push for inclusivity is one of the reasons I am sure El Salvador will be very competitive in the future of teqball and Para teqball."

Para teqball was launched by FITEQ in March 2021 with the aim to make the sport "as inclusive as possible", with professionalisation ongoing in an attempt to offer elite Para teqball athletes opportunities to complete in official events.
