Teams in the 2x2 mixed relay in Sant Julià de Lòria featured a male athlete on the first and third legs and a female athlete on the second and fourth, with each leg consisting of 1.1 kilometres of running, 2.2km of cycling and 2.2km of skiing.

This running order of athletes is set to continue in World Triathlon's relays until 2024.

Daria Rogozina crossed the finish line to clinch gold for the RTF, with her and partner Pavel Andreev finishing in 1 hour 18min 29sec.

This built on Rogozina's triumph in the women's elite individual race at the Championships yesterday, while for Andreev it provided added satisfaction having been disqualified in the men's elite event.

The RTF's nearest challengers were Sandra Mairhofer and Franco Pesavento of Italy, who clocked 1:20:25.

Pesavento had won the winter duathlon and winter triathlon world titles at the Championships in Andorra.

Norway's Elizabeth Sveum and Hans Christian Tungesvik were a further 42 seconds back in the bronze medal position, with Romania's Maria Luisa Rasina and Viorel Palici fourth in 1:23:52.

There was victory for a Norwegian pair in the 2x2 mixed junior relay as Henrik Farstadvoll and Victoria Nitteberg crossed the finish line in 1:26:56, beating the 1:33:20 posted by the RTF's Semen Zakutin and Kseniia Skvortsova and 1:38:18 from Spain's Alvaro Lopez Lucia and Irene Moro Betrian.
