Senegal have risen to their highest position in the latest FIFA world rankings after winning their first Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa Cup of Nations.

The continental champions climbed to 18th whilst other successful teams from the tournament ascended too.

Runners-up Egypt rose eleven spots to 34th and third-placed Cameroon increased their standing by twelve positions to 38th in the world.

Other noticeable changes include Mali improving their rank to 48th, a rise of five spaces, and Gabon and Malawi moving up by 10 and seven places to 82nd and 119th.

Equatorial Guinea also climbed 15 spots to break into the top 100.

Gambia was also responsible for securing the most points, 85.44 points, and consequently increased their position by the most spaces, 25.

Following a failed title defence, Algeria were the biggest losers from the tournament - falling 14 spots.

The world ranking also saw Qatar 2022 qualifiers from the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) having an impact.

Canada and Costa Rica both increased their standing by seven places, with the former moving to 33rd and the latter to 42nd.

The top of the rankings remained largely unchanged with Belgium, Brazil and France staying as the number one, two and three in the world.

Copa America holders Argentina replaced Euro 2020 finalists England in fourth.

In total, UEFA has 26 teams in the top 50, whilst CONMEBOL has eight, CAF six, CONCACAF and Asian Football Confederation four each, and Oceania Football Confederation has none.
