The International Swimming Federation (FINA) has launched two new internships, in event management and business and project management, targeted at athletes.

The first is aimed at athletes who have competed at the FINA World Championships, FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) or Olympic Games in the past four years.

It offers them a path into event management as successful applicants will help the governing body to deliver its biggest competitions in 2022, both in open water and the pool.

There are two placements available at the FINA headquarters in Lausanne, with one beginning in the Swiss spring and the other in autumn.

Those who are selected will work with local Organising Committees, liaise with National Federations and operate between various FINA departments and stakeholders to manage and run competitions in swimming, artistic swimming, open water swimming, diving, high diving and water polo.

The spring intern would initially focus on delivering the FINA World Championships in Budapest from June 18 to July 3.

That event was announced on Monday (February 7), following Fukuoka's staging of the World Championships being pushed back to 2023.

The second FINA internship is in collaboration with one of its official partners, Myrtha Pools.

Once again, two candidates will be chosen for a six-month position.

It is aimed at active or retired aquatics athletes looking to improve their business and project-management skills.

Fluent English language skills are required and FINA says Italian is also an asset as the job is based at the Myrtha Pools headquarters in Castiglione delle Stiviere in the Lombardy region.

"We are happy to start the FINA internship programme," Myrtha Pools chief executive Roberto Colletto said.

"This is an initiative that allows us to share our expertise on competition pools, from design to production and installation, and to further strengthen the relationship with FINA along with the athletes of today, and those of the future."
