Tan Kim Her has re-joined the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for a second stint as its doubles coach.

Kim Her had served in the role from 2015 to 2019 and was credited for the rise of world number eight men's doubles partnership Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

The Malaysian then joined the Japanese national team as a men's doubles coach, guiding world number four duo Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi to the world title in Spain last year.

"Kim Her is well aware of the Indian badminton ecosystem, and his inclusion will strengthen the doubles contingent even more," said BAI secretary general Ajay K Singhania.

As well as leading the men's doubles teams, Kim Her has also been tasked with planning an overall coaching system and overseeing coach education.

He will be required to identify Indian coaches with potential and assist in their development.

This will include staging four workshops each year.

"Satwik and I are happy that Tan coach will be back with us. We always look up to him as he paired us together despite our early hesitation because while we were similar, neither of us was confident of playing the front court," said Shetty.

Following Kim Her's departure from Japan, it remains to be seen if his compatriot Lee Wan Wah will be promoted to lead the country's men's doubles pairs.

Wan Wah joined Japan's junior squad in 2019, was promoted to the national doubles second team a year later and is currently in charge of the second mixed doubles team.

Another Malaysian, Jeremy Gan is in charge of Japan's mixed doubles department.

As a player, Kim Her won a silver medal at the Victoria 1994 Commonwealth Games mixed doubles and bronze in the men's doubles - also in Victoria.

Silver also came for Kim Her in the Beijing 1994 Asian Championships mixed doubles.
